Madhav Seva Niwas · 9 min read
Three days lets you experience Ujjain without rushing — and add a memorable day-trip to another sacred site. This Ujjain 3-day itinerary is paced for families and seniors, with the temple circuit, ghats, and an optional excursion.
Day 1 — Settle in, Mahakaleshwar & Ram Ghat

- 5:30 PM — Walk to Ram Ghat (1.2 km), explore the small temples along the steps.

- 3:00 PM — Chintaman Ganesh (4 km) and Gopal Mandir (600 m from Mahakaleshwar).
- 5:00 PM — ISKCON Temple — evening kirtan, dinner at the ISKCON restaurant.
Day 3 — Day trip: Omkareshwar OR Maheshwar
With the core Ujjain darshan done, use Day 3 for a sacred excursion.
Option A — Omkareshwar (Jyotirlinga)
About 140 km from Ujjain (3-hour drive). One of the 12 Jyotirlingas, on the Narmada River. Hire a taxi early; return by night. Alternatively, combine an Omkareshwar–Maheshwar circuit.
Option B — Maheshwar
On the Narmada, around 90 km from Ujjain. Famous for Ahilya Fort, ghats, and Maheshwari sarees. A gentler, scenic day-trip.
Option C — Stay local
If you prefer a slow day, revisit Mahakaleshwar for a mid-morning darshan, explore Vikram Kirti Mandir and Bhartrihari Caves, and shop on Freeganj for prasad and souvenirs.
Pacing tips for 3 days
- Keep one early morning (Bhasma Aarti), not three — seniors and children need rest.
- Always return to your dharamshala between sessions — it's your base for food, rest, and hot water.
- Hire the same auto/driver for full-day circuits — better rates and reliability.
- Sattvic meals keep energy stable across busy days.
Why 3 days is ideal
Two days is enough for the core temples, but 3 days gives you the spiritual breathing room to attend aarti at different ghats, revisit Mahakaleshwar at a relaxed pace, and add a sacred day-trip — the kind of trip that stays with you.
